I've had a dream for a long time to have a small market full of fresh, hand made .... anything. So, a few years ago I set up a couple of bee hives and I bought some chickens. You have to start some where. Now I've got a nice group of egg layers, who turned out to make incredible pets, and a few ducks thrown in for good measure. The bees have been a more complex adventure but we're working at it.
The start of last fall found me with a pear tree with more pears than leaves on it. I didn't want to waste them so we made pear honey and pear relish. Pear honey is sweet, not a jelly, not a jam, it pours like honey and is great on toast or a biscuit.
Last fall I began to tutor myself in the amazing art of soap making, and I find immense satisfaction in making soaps.... so they are added to the list.
I have the makings of an aquaponics set up, and that will produce fresh tilapia and catfish, and fresh salad greens of all kinds. We will be adding quite a bit of fresh naturally grown produce as we grow.
Not sure how fast we'll grow, its just life....for now.
